After feeling somewhat creatively uninspired and nearing the end of my Associates of Arts degree at the downtown campus of Cape Fear Community College in 2013, I chose to take a metalsmithing class on a whim. As a student of archaeology and architectural history, I felt an immediate connection with this art. The idea of being able to physically manipulate raw materials using similar tools and techniques as so many people throughout time was definitely one of the coolest things I realized that I was capable of. And so, Flame & Glory was born!
All items are lovingly and carefully designed, handcrafted, and hand-forged by myself in my home studio in Western Colorado using materials such as sterling silver, fine silver, brass, and copper. I strive to constantly improve my technique and honor this craft.
When not working in my studio on my metalsmithing projects, I'm probably out in the field working as an archaeologist. Archaeology has taken me all around the United States and my travels have provided much of the inspiration for my work. Follow my adventures on Instagram @katexcavates!
Flame & Glory is a one-woman enterprise and every aspect of the brand is managed by myself- from sourcing the materials, ordering, design, research, development, website management, packaging, shipping, finance, marketing, photography, and who knows what else on a day-to-day basis. All materials used are combined entirely by my own hands into original designs using traditional metalsmithing techniques that include piercing, sawing, filing, sanding, forming, brazing, fusing, soldering, stone setting, and polishing. All of the stones used are genuine and ethically sourced.
All that being said, I'm glad you found me!
